Why You Want A Chromatic Ocarina
A chromatic ocarina is very simply an ocarina that plays all the sharps and flats.
Not all ocarinas are chromatic, but I recommend that you get one that is. Why do you want a chromatic ocarina?
- Since you can play all the sharps and flats, it allows you to play in any key.
- Playing in any key is especially important when playing with other instruments.
- You can play the ocarina as a transposing or non-transposing instrument (if that doesn't mean anything to you, don't worry about it. Basically it means that you can read music and play along with other instruments).
- Because ocarinas are limited in tonal range relative to many larger instruments, you will find you need to play in different keys to allow you to fit a song in the ocarina's range. Having all the shaprs and flats available allows you to do this and will give you a much expanded number of songs you can play.
Many ocarinas are not chromatic. My recommendation is that you get one that is.
